First Book is an international nonprofit organization, operating in the US and Canada, providing new books to children in need addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. First Book/Le Premier Livre, a registered Canadian charity with offices in Toronto, was created to put new books and educational materials into the hands of Canadian children from low-income families.

First Book/Le Premier Livre works through existing community programs and literacy efforts to provide a steady stream of new free or low cost books to elevate educational programming and improve access to reading materials. Through work with Canadian publishing partners, an ever expanding network of volunteers and book recipient groups, First Book/Le Premier Livre grants unprecedented access to new books to programs serving children in need.  An innovative leader in social enterprise, First Book has distributed more than 65 million free and low cost books in thousands of communities across the U.S. and Canada.
