Our Story
For the past 18 years, First Book has applied award-winning, innovative program design and implementation to deliver access to reading materials and increase the number of books in the home for children in need across the United States. Through targeted book distributions, cause-based marketing campaigns, network engagement, and an extensive number of public/private partnerships, First Book now distributes over eight million books annually. We have three models supplying books to children in the U.S.:
- The First Book National Book Bank (FBNBB) is a centralized distribution system for large-scale donations of children’s books from publishers to programs serving children in need. Working with warehousing partners and support from volunteer networks, the FBNBB distributes millions of books annually.
- The First Book Marketplace (FBMP) is an online store selling high quality children's books and educational materials at deeply discounted prices to organizations serving children from low-income families.
- Volunteer Networks – a community-based model bringing together diverse local leaders to mobilize communities and supply existing programs with new books for the children they serve.
