By helping to improve literacy and education, TD is creating opportunities for children in need and positively impacting children’s education.
Pi Beta Phi
Since 2007, the women of Pi Beta Phi have demonstrated their commitment to literacy by donating more than 2 million books to children in need through First Book. Collegiate chapters and alumnae clubs in both the United States and Canada fundraise year-round through letter campaigns and First Book Speed Read TM contests. In 2010, Pi Beta Phi and First Book launched the Local Literacy Initiative, a program that allows alumnae clubs to directly provide new books to schools and programs in their own communities.
Build-A-Bear Workshop
Since 2002, Build-A-Bear Workshop has supported literacy and education by donating a percentage of proceeds to First Book and encouraging its young guests to read through Bearemy’s Book Club.
TELUS Toronto Community Board
In 2009, TELUS hosted reading events at schools to engage employees in promoting children’s literacy and distribute hundreds of books to children in need. They have been doing it every year now since 2009 and last year, for their TELUS 2012 Day of Service over 40 employees volunteered and came out to pick and pack over 30,000 books at our distribution centre for children in need all across the country.
