Volunteers

First Book depends upon the hearts, minds and hands of everyone in our community. Whether it’s an hour a week in the office or helping at a book distribution with sorting books, we need committed volunteers who believe that literacy is the ladder to success for all. Carol Anne Ruscica, Executive Director

One of First Book’s earliest and most successful models in the United States was the Advisory Board model where literacy and education ambassadors, made up of business, education and community leaders, came together to form a grassroots network of boards in local communities around the nation.

In Canada, our call for volunteers is strong. Our network of grassroots volunteers and leaders committed to improving literacy and access to books in their own communities is a cornerstone of First Book/Le Premier Livre.

To find out how you can serve, spread the word, fundraise, or advocate for books in programs in your community, contact Wayne Cochrane, Director of Operations.

How Else Can I Get Involved with First Book in My Community

Tell organizations in your community that serve low-income children to register with First Book and receive books.
