Pongapalooza 2013 Winners: "Scotiabank’s Kung Fu Pandas"
SPiN Toronto hosted a night of epic ping pong in celebration of literacy and First Book Canada on May 14th, 2013, a month ago today. The event, sponsored by Scotiabank, doubled last year’s efforts and raised over $30,000 which will support First Book Canada and their efforts to provide children in need access to brand new books across the country.
Thirty-two teams of four battled it out for the 2013 Scotiabank Pongapalooza Cup, while close to two hundred spectators cheered them on. After several rounds of vigorous battle, Scotiabank’s Kung Fu Pandas, and honorary captain David Chilton (The Wealthy Barber), proudly claimed the title of ‘Champions for 2013’. Amidst the battlefield of swinging paddles and stray balls, guests were able bid on some remarkable raffle prizes, play some recreational ping pong, taste SPiN’s amazing hors d’oeuvres and cool off with Hop City beer.
First Book Canada is elevating the quality of education for children in need on a permanent, sustainable basis – but we cannot do it alone. Our Partners in Ending Illiteracy represent some of the smartest, most generous organizations across the for-profit and nonprofit sectors and we want you to join them by taking part in this event. These collaborations help us reach thousands of Canadian children who can now experience the joy of reading and owning new books.
Couldn’t make the event, but would like to support First Book Canada?
