Celebrating reading at Major Ballachey School with Indigo Love of Reading Foundation

For the last six years, First Book Canada has partnered with the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation to donate 1,500 new books each to high needs schools across Canada that are runners-up in the Indigo Love of Reading Literacy Grant. This year, we reached 30 high needs schools country-wide: a total of 45,000 brand new books going to students in low-income communities just in time for summer reading! The books have been generously donated from Bayard, Les Editions Heritage, Disney Worldwide Publishing, Marvel Press, Disney Press, Lucasfilm Press, and Hyperion Press.

This year’s partnership kicked off with celebration at Major Ballachey School in Brantford, Ontario. We had the chance to visit Major Ballachey School and reveal the donation to the students.

The 30 schools receiving book donations span Canada, from as far north as Nunavut to the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. They all have one thing in common: a commitment to inspiring their students to become engaged students and passionate readers.
