Providing Books to Kids Through Ping Pong

This post was written by Events Intern Sabrina Yussuf.

Since 2012, Pongapalooza has been instrumental in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for First Book Canada to provide brand new books and educational resources to Canadian children in need.

The winning team: “All Ping” from Moneyclip

This year was no different! The 8th Annual RBC Capital Markets Pongapalooza was once again held at SPiN Toronto where 32 teams of 4, captained by Canadian authors, battled it out for the Pongapalooza Cup! This year raised $54,000, with the proceeds allowing First Book Canada to provide children in need with access to the educational materials that will help them become champions of tomorrow.

Apart from the Tournament the evening also included several side games, where attendees had the chance to win great prizes! With the help of our generous sponsors, attendees walked away with books, wine, Kobo e-readers, a laptop, and more!

If that wasn’t enough friendly competition, we also had a wide selection of silent auction gift bundles where attendees could try to outbid their friends and colleagues to win prizes such as a Nintendo Switch, signed Toronto Raptors Plaque, signed Golden State Warriors Jerseys, a Neal Brothers Foods basket and much, much more!

At the end of the evening, everyone walked away with an RBC Capital Markets Pongapalooza swag bag filled with items generously donated from Walrus Magazine, SPROOS, Fruits & Passions, Stonewall Kitchen, and Neal Brothers Foods.

For those that attended, thank you for supporting First Book Canada! You are helping to transform the lives of children in need across Canada. Join us for next year’s Pongapalooza in May 2020! We hope to see you there!
