High-quality children’s books now available to early literacy programs across Canada through new First Book Canada portal

With books curated by Canadian Children’s Literacy Foundation, portal will provide organizations with a great resource to support young children on the road to reading

TORONTO (January 25, 2021)– First Book Canada (FBC) today launched a book portal featuring board books and story books for young children, all at a discounted price for programs and educators serving kids in need. The books were specially selected by the Canadian Children’s Literacy Foundation (CCLF) for little ones to enjoy with their families.

More than 14 different titles, in several languages, are available for purchase by First Book Canada members. They include stories such as Little You, Sweetest Kulu, classic favourites like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and more.

“We are delighted to work with the Canadian Children’s Literacy Foundation on this unique portal that makes it easy for early childhood literacy programs serving families in need to select and purchase high-quality books for babies and young children online at greatly discounted prices,” said Tom Best, Executive Director at First Book Canada. “We know when we read with our little ones we help nurture their curiosity and memory. By holding a child close while reading, parents can help them manage moments of anxiety and create a positive association with reading that endures throughout their lives.”

The portal is accessible to First Book Canada members and will be replenished throughout the year. You can find the book portal here: https://www.fbmpcanada.org/cclf?limit=24. Special pricing has been provided by the books’ publishers; First Book Canada recovers that charge plus a modest handling fee. CCLF does not receive money from book sales.

“We are grateful to First Book Canada and the publishers for their commitment to getting books into tiny hands,” said Ariel Siller, CEO, Canadian Children’s Literacy Foundation. “Early exposure to books can inspire young children to become readers, building a foundation for future success. Through this portal, and the organizations that use it, we are thrilled that more kids will have access to quality literacy resources and a chance at a strong start on their reading journeys.”
