As we approach our 15th year of transforming the lives of Canadian kids in need, our new brand expresses the impact of our work.

– Heather Farquharson, Executive Director of First Book Canada

Toronto, ON (September 5, 2023). Today, First Book Canada/Le Premier Livre Canada launches a new visual identity, including a profound and dynamic logomark and colour palette. Through a rigorous and collaborative journey, the newly launched identity includes our organization’s new tagline – Eliminating Barriers. Inspiring Young Minds – communicating the clarity on First Book Canada’s core values. Our new visual identity centers around being visible, memorable, and accessible as an organization as we continue to transform the lives of children in need by improving access to educational opportunities.

Education transforms lives. First Book Canada is building a world where every child has access to a quality education. We work to remove barriers to education and level the playing field for kids in need. At the heart of our work are the 575,000 members of the First Book Network, the largest online community of educators and professionals dedicated to children in need across North America. This Network is the key to creating systemic change. We conduct research studies that aggregate their voices to identify barriers to equitable education and inform strategic solutions. To address their needs, we provide free and low-cost books, resources, and access to leading experts. We use aggregated buying power to influence what is published or created to support this underserved community. Founded in Washington D.C. in 1992 as a non-profit social enterprise, First Book is dedicated to eliminating barriers to learning and inspiring young minds.

With a multidisciplinary team of experts and a leading force for education equity, First Book Canada works to level the educational playing field for kids in need through:

  • The First Book Canada Network: North America’s largest and fastest-growing community of educators working with children in need at schools and programs across the country.
  • The First Book Canada Marketplace: a non-profit eCommerce site, delivering a wide range of professionally curated diverse, culturally relevant books and resources — all offered at the lowest costs possible, or for free.
  • First Book Canada Research & Insights: informing how to develop products, curriculum, and digital resources that will be most relevant and impactful for all serving under-resourced educators and children.
  • First Book Canada Accelerator: collaborating with public and private partners, translating best-in-class expertise into actionable educational strategies to support learning for kids in need.
